Karachi: Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress said that 52 people have been murdered by extremist Muslims outside courts on accusations of blasphemy law and hundreds have been charged and put behind bars since 1990 when death sentence was legislated under 295 B and C sections of Pakistan Penal Code.

Blasphemy laws were introduced during British Raj in subcontinent of India to maintain harmony among religious communities and same was adopted in constitution of 1973 of Islamic Republic of Pakistan under section 298 PPC subject to months imprison sentence.

With 2nd Amendment in Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan in 1974, section 298 A was legislated to prevent Ahmadiyyia Muslims to write Quran verses on gates of their mosques on declaring them non-Muslims with punishment of six months to three years.

In 8th Amendment in Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan during dictatorship of General Zial Ul Haq Section 295 B was introduced in Pakistan Penal Code PPC with subject to life imprisonment.

In 1992, Federal Sharia Court in a judgment on a petition on one Muslim Mohammad Iqbal issued decree that death sentence should be awarded to a blasphemer and forwarded it to President of Pakistan for due legislation.

On judgment of Federal Sharia Court of Pakistan, then Senate of Pakistan legislated and introduced Section 295 C in Pakistan Penal Code PCC subject to capital punishment and same approved National Assembly of Pakistan.

Dr. Nazir Bhatti said “ As Section 295 C PPC was added in constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan on judgment of a higher court , the Pakistan Christian Congress PCC challenged blasphemy laws in Lahore High Court in 1998”

“The churches and NGO,s which collect millions on persecution of blasphemy laws in Pakistan never dared to challenge this law in court of law which violates basic human rights of minorities guaranteed in constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan but only Pakistan Christian Congress” added Nazir Bhatti

PCC Chief said that funding agencies in Western Countries shall not give any funding to Churches and NGO in Pakistan if they not wish to curb roots of blasphemy laws and challenge it in higher courts of Pakistan.

Dr. Nazir Bhatti said that NGO and Churches only enjoy funding on blasphemy laws for vested interests but not sincere to safe Asia Bibi and other victims of blasphemy laws in Pakistan.

“Common Pakistani Christian is suffering in Pakistan, dozens are booked under blasphemy laws and killed and more than 700 hundred Christian women are enforcedly converted to Islam and sold to Muslims for sex slaves but Churches and NGO like CLAAS, SLMP, OLA of ECLJ and others are receiving fundings and enjoying” said Nazir Bhatti

If funding agencies around world think that they helping Asia Bibi or other blasphemy victims in Pakistan or sending funds for revival of basic democratic human rights of Pakistani Christians then question their organizations in Pakistan Why they fear to challenge Blasphemy laws in higher courts to end persecution of Christians?

‘We must adopt way to challenge blasphemy laws and other laws in Supreme Court of Pakistan and Federal Sharia Court for due rights as our representatives in parliament, clergy and NGO are fake and not trust worthy” said PCC Chief Nazir Bhatti
