Banning Books

TURBAT: Books play a vital role in the progress and prosperity of a nation. They give us the potential to create a reading culture and bring radical positive change in society. Unfortunately, Turbat, a major city of Balochistan, where there are thousands of students trying to obtain knowledge and information, is faced with a major conundrum.
Allegedly, certain quarters have banned Balochi books in Turbat and have warned shopkeepers not to sell them. I request the authorities concerned to investigate this wrongful ban on the sale and possession of books in the Balochi language. As this issue has deeper political underpinnings, I request the Balochistan chief minister to take strong action against those who are trying to spew more venom in the tussle between various nationalist groups. We need to remember that we are all citizens of Pakistan.
